Jonathan Coulton

From the “brilliant stuff that couldn’t happen without the internet” pile comes singer and songwriter Jonathan Coulton. I don’t know the whole backstory, but apparently he was a programmer who had wanted to be a songwriter. So he put up a blog and wrote a song a week for a large number of weeks. Now he’s making a living doing what he loves. And lots of his songs are totally hilarious. You can listen to a bunch of them on his listening suggestions page. I particularly recommend “Code Monkey” (about working in a dead-end programming job) and “Re: Your brains” (a memo from one’s newly zombified co-worker about the futility of holding out in a mall with guns).

Oh, and he’s totally cool with paying whatever you can for music so long as you help as many people listen to it as possible.
